Safety at Rampen

Real adventure with real safety margins. Our guides come from search and rescue, fire and ambulance services - we plan for the weather, the sea and the mountain so you can let go.

Our focus is to deliver great experiences in a safe environment. Please read these safety rules carefully before booking. They apply to all activities operated by Rampen AS unless a specific product states otherwise. Some products have additional rules, listed under the relevant category below.

Our guides

Every Rampen trip is led by a trained guide. Our team has backgrounds from sea rescue, the fire service, the ambulance service and certified mountain and via ferrata instruction. All guides hold valid first aid certification and complete regular refresher training in rescue, evacuation and emergency response.

Equipment and safety gear

Safety equipment must be used according to the instructions given by your guide. All equipment is inspected before and after each trip and replaced on schedule.

  • Via ferrata: harness, helmet and a certified via ferrata set are mandatory. The harness must be tight; ask your guide if you are unsure.
  • RIB: a flotation suit and life jacket are mandatory on every trip and provided by Rampen.
  • Snowmobile and winter activities: helmet, thermal suit, gloves and boots are provided in your size.

Safety training

It is strictly forbidden to use Rampen Via Ferrata without completing safety training and understanding all the rules. You will take part in both practical and theoretical training before climbing. It is your responsibility to follow all instructions throughout the activity.

Age limits

Age limits are set per activity to match physical demands and safety equipment sizes.

  • Via ferrata: from 12 years. Participants under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Under 18 requires consent from a parent or guardian. Minimum weight 40 kg.
  • RIB: from 6 years, minimum height 120 cm.
  • Other activities: age limits are listed on each activity page.

Registration and health information

You must provide correct and up-to-date information about every participant when you book - both for yourself and for others. For via ferrata, registration and a signed self-declaration are required before the climb. Guardians must explain the rules to any minor participants.

Risk and personal responsibility

All travel in nature and exposed terrain carries some risk. Each participant is responsible for their own safety. For minors, the parent or guardian is responsible and must supervise closely throughout the trip. Please report any injury or condition that may affect your participation, before or during the activity.

  • Via ferrata: move calmly and deliberately. Consider each step. Ask your guide if anything is unclear.
  • RIB: tours involve sudden movements and impact. Not recommended during pregnancy or with back, neck or pelvic conditions.

Via ferrata specific rules

These rules apply in addition to the general rules when climbing Rampen Via Ferrata.

  • The wire must be used wherever present. Lock carabiners correctly and clip them in opposite directions.
  • Keep at least one bay of wire between climbers. With a minor, you may climb closer.
  • Pass only on flat sections, with clear communication, and never unclip from the wire while passing.
  • Secure loose items - bottles, phones, cameras and rocks can fall on people below.
  • We recommend rubber-coated gloves for better grip and protection against the wire.

Weather, sea state and route changes

Bodø sits at the edge of the Norwegian Sea - conditions change quickly. We monitor weather, wind, tide and sea state continuously and adjust or cancel trips when needed. If we cancel for safety reasons you are offered a new date or a full refund.

Emergency procedures

Every guide carries a VHF marine radio or satellite communicator, a first aid kit and a thermal blanket. We file route plans before departure and have direct lines to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, the local hospital and the harbour authorities. In an emergency we initiate response immediately and keep you informed.

Insurance

Rampen AS carries full operator and third-party liability insurance for all activities. We strongly recommend that every participant also holds personal travel insurance that covers adventure activities. Insurance does not replace personal responsibility for following safety instructions.
