Trek through the Arctic winter landscape on snowshoes to Bodø's mightiest waterfall, Valnesfossen, and experience Saltstraumen – widely known as the world's strongest tidal current.

A 3.5-kilometre trek through snow-covered trails, ancient paths and frozen streams leads you to a 60-metre waterfall in a breathtaking winter setting. Afterwards, visit Saltstraumen timed to peak current – roaring water, dancing whirlpools from the shore. Small groups, experienced guides and a calm pace make this accessible for everyone.

Guide, transportation, snowshoes with poles, a light snack and hot drinks are all included. The total duration is about five hours, covering the 3.5 kilometer snowshoe hike, the visit to Saltstraumen and all transportation. Remember to wear good winter shoes – snowshoes are attached directly to your boots.

As this activity depends on weather and snow conditions, the route may be adjusted. If conditions don't allow for snowshoes, the hike will take place without them – your guide will always inform you in advance.

What are snowshoes?

Snowshoes are wide frames that attach to your winter boots to distribute your weight across the snow. You sink less and gain better traction – no experience required.

Do I need experience?

Not at all. Before we set off you'll get a short introduction. Snowshoes are intuitive to use and the pace is adapted to the group.

Is the tour suitable for children?

The tour is suitable for children aged 8 and up, and families who want to discover the hidden gems of Bodø.

What should I wear?

Dress in layers with wool underwear, fleece, winter jacket and trousers. Hat, scarf, mittens and good winter shoes are essential. Warmth is the key to a comfortable experience.

What if the weather is bad?

Safety comes first. Our guides may adjust the route or cancel if conditions are unsafe. You will be offered a new date or refund.

Where do I meet up?

All trips start at Rampen Adventure Hub, Sjøgata 41, Bodø. For guests at Wood Hotel we offer pick-up.
