The tour starts from Rampen Adventure Hub, where you will receive a brief introduction to the evening's program and what to expect. We will then get in the car and the guide will take you to the places we know offer the best chances of experiencing the Northern Lights.

Our guides chase the best conditions and check forecasts before every departure. If the sky is fully clouded out or activity is very low, we'll reschedule you - because nature doesn't run on a timetable.

About the area

Bodø sits at 67°N, well inside the auroral oval. From September to early April we have dark enough skies to chase the lights - the statistical peak is between 21:00 and 01:00. We monitor cloud cover, KP-index and local weather all day before each tour, and choose the best location of the night from a network of spots ranging from Mistfjorden in the north to Skjerstadfjorden in the south.

We do not guarantee aurora sightings - nobody can. What we guarantee is that we'll put you in the darkest, clearest spot we can find, with a guide who's been doing this for years.

Do you always see the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that cannot be guaranteed. Both weather and geomagnetic activity play a role. Our guides follow the forecasts and cancel the trip if the chance is very small.

What if you don't see the Northern Lights?

You will still have experienced the mysterious Arctic nature at night – raw silence away from cities. Our guides create adventures worth embarking on, even when conditions change.

How long does the trip last?

We hunt for the Northern Lights for three to four hours, visiting our best spots for the Aurora Borealis.

What should I wear?

Dress for the weather – the Arctic winter night can be very cold. We recommend warm layers, winter jacket, warm shoes, hat, scarf and gloves.

Is the tour suitable for children?

The Northern Lights chase requires patience, as you may wait for the lights to appear. We recommend assessing suitability based on your group.

Meeting point is Rampen Adventure Hub, Sjøgata 41, 8006 Bodø. For guests at Wood Hotel Bodø we offer pick-up at the hotel.
